The Strengthening Families Program

The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is a 14 week skills development program that brings the family together to share a meal and to work together to strengthen family communications and parenting skills. The program is free of charge and is offered in partnership with the Lewis County Recovery Center. Families with children 6-12 are eligible. Assistance is available for childcare and transportation.

A skills training program FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY that has been found in research to significantly reduce problem behaviors in children, improve school performance, and reduce delinquency and drug use in teenagers.

Proven Results:

Improves family communications and cohesion.

Improves protective factors and increases assets in children and parents.

Decreases children's behavior problems and conduct disorders.

Decreases family conflict and stress.

How Does the SFP Program Work?

Families meet for 2 hour sessions that begin with a complimentary family meal. Parents and children then meet separately with two group leaders for an hour to learn about increasing desired behaviors in children, improving communication, using effective discipline, problem solving, and setting limits. During the second hour, families engage in structured activities to practice what was just learned.
